Summary

Today we dive into earnings season investing secrets. Learn the investing secrets that will grow your wealth as we dive into market analysis highlighting accounting red flags and potential overvaluation risks. Financial engineering often signals late-cycle behavior recessions, though unpopular, are necessary to clear economic “dead wood.”

We also examined current earnings trends in the financial sector, technical market patterns like resistance and support levels in small caps and metals, and the importance of balancing fundamental and technical analysis. We also talk investor psychology—how emotion, bias, and sentiment often drive poor timing and decision-making in markets.

We discuss...

  • The Kolbe test, which measures instinctive strengths and natural problem-solving styles rather than personality or intelligence.
  • Businesses use Kolbe results to build better teams by pairing complementary working styles.
  • We also talked current market conditions, drawing comparisons between today’s tech boom and the late-1990s dot-com bubble.
  • How Nvidia’s vendor financing arrangements resemble accounting maneuvers from the dot-com era, raising concerns about inflated revenues and future write-down risks.
  • The hosts noted signs of late-cycle behavior in markets, including excessive optimism, overleveraged valuations, and creative corporate accounting.
  • Recessions serve an essential economic function by clearing out inefficiencies and “dead wood,” creating healthier long-term growth.
  • A segment focused on earnings season, particularly the uneven performance in the financial sector and what it signals about underlying economic momentum.
  • We analyzed technical market patterns, such as key resistance and support levels in small-cap indexes and precious metals.
  • How gold and silver might act as contrarian signals or safe havens amid market uncertainty.
  • The discussion emphasized the interplay between fundamental and technical analysis, stressing that investors should use both to form a complete market view.
  • They highlighted the danger of emotional decision-making, noting that fear and greed often lead investors to buy high and sell low.
  • The episode closed by underscoring the importance of maintaining discipline and objectivity, especially during euphoric or panic-driven market phases.

How are you on this sunny Friday?

0:23.6

Sunny but chilly. It feels like fall here.

0:28.9

Here too. In my new house, the leaves are changing. It's beautiful. My son, we were walking out the driveway and like, wow, look at all those colors, like orange and reds. Like, it's beautiful.

0:34.2

Like, we're surrounded by trees now. It's great. Great place until all the leaves fall, and then it won't be great, but that's all right. Yeah, ours have not quite falling yet. I'm looking at the trees outside my window, and they're still on the trees. They have just started to change, but they haven't started to fall really yet. That's a great thing about New England in this part of the country is you get the change in seasons and the beautiful leaves.

And I just love it, especially when you're surrounded by trees that change. I mean, pine trees don't quite work, but you got the non-pine. There's tons of pines around here, but the ones that aren't, it's great. You get a lot of colors. So it's really a cool time of year. Here, this used to be when it happened. And when the kids were little, we used to go apple picking this time of year all the time.

1:12.3

And it used to be great because you go apple picking. And then there's all the leaves that you see around the orchard and on the way there that were changing. It was always a pretty time of year. I love apple picking. And I have to say, it's been a long time since we've been apple picking because no one wants to sit around and go pick

1:28.2

apples. And it used to be, I loved it because they're like, oh, I'm getting a great deal. I'm getting this huge bag of apples for very little money. But now they're actually making a profit on it. And it's more expensive to go pick your own apples than to go to the store. Yes. It's a little unfortunate. I went to the place that we used to go to just because they have a kind of apple that you can't buy in the stores that we really like. But if you want to go there and go apple picking, in addition to paying the same price for the apples, we used to walk to the orchard and then take the tractor back. Now they make you get on the tractor both ways and they make you pay for that

2:02.1

too. So yeah, it's just become much more of a profit-making machine than it used to be. Yeah, I mean, it's fine. I get it. It's an experience. That's why you do it. And now everybody has money and people looking for experiences, they're willing to spend for it. I get it. It's just too bad. I've always wanted just like an apple tree in my backyard. My in-laws have a ton of

2:20.4

blueberry bushes on their property. They just came with the property when they got it. And so we go up there blueberry picking. It's like two weeks and you can't pick enough. You're there all day and there's just, you haven't even touched the tree. You know, it's like still full of blueberry.

2:50.7

It's so much fun. It's unfortunate. It's such a short period. But apple trees, you've got like a month. It's a lot of fun. It's fun having that sort of stuff. So you can kind of go out and pick your own and dipping my toe into farming. I've always wanted to farm. I just don't really want to do the work.

2:53.9

I like the idea of doing the work, but actually doing the works.

2:51.3

I'm a little busy.

2:55.5

It's so funny. You talk about farming. I have a client, a couple that I work with, and he wants to
