On today's show we're talking with Gary Marcus. He's a scientist, author, entrepreneur,

professor at NYU. We'll continue talking about machine learning, artificial intelligence,

and maybe we'll get into innateism. Here he is, preach along, Mr. Pendulette.

Yeah, rebooting AI, building artificial intelligence we can trust by Gary Marcus and Ernest

Davis. I read the book, learned a wicked lot, and we're just talking to try to learn

even more, trying to pick Gary Marcus's brain. It seems like brain.

In episode one, if I were to interpret an editorial slant from our guests, it'd be that we

shouldn't put so much faith in AI as we're putting as we move forward. You summed that

up and a computer could not have. And I also just want to say that you're also pan-learned

a lot at Sunday school, taking apocalyptic thinkers to task as well. That's an optimistic

approach to what you're doing as well. But a lot of people always just think every

time an AI article comes out, you know, that's it. Singularity, we're going down. Singularity.

Terminator, we're done. We have a lot of roots. Robots are going to destroy us.

About that in the book. One is some advice in case the robots come in attack. We're pretty

sure that they won't because they're too stupid and they don't care. But we say if

the robots should attack, number one, close the door. If that doesn't work, lock the door.

You could probably paint stripes on the door, and that would be enough that they wouldn't

find you, right? If that doesn't work, put up a big fan because they're not very good

...
