| 2:52.3 | I mean I was so happy it was such a treat to just get a very different perspective on nutrition and on health and wellness and I'm just like who is this woman I need to find out more about her and her work. |
| 3:07.3 | And so yeah I really love your approach to body kindness for so many reasons and I think my top reason especially after reading your book is that it's so practical and showing people how they can incorporate these concepts of body kindness into their life. |
| 3:22.7 | So just to get started for listeners who aren't really sure what body kindness is or health at every size like what that means can you give us just a little bit of background to start off. |
| 3:32.9 | Sure so I'll start with health at every size so health at every size is a philosophy that is think of it as like guiding principles and the association for size diversity and health created the health at every size principle. |
| 3:52.1 | Based on a collaboration between evidence based research and also the lived experiences of people and who are at higher weights and there's a much more detailed history on their website. |
| 4:08.5 | But essentially what I've learned recently is that there have been registered dieticians who have been there since the beginning who actually helped to create the principles and I just think that's so amazing. |
| 4:19.1 | And there you want to think of them on the whole as a way of promoting respectful care working with an individual not only with their preferences but also noticing that they have individual needs and circumstances that they need to operate within in order to truly focus on health and well being. |
| 4:40.1 | So the number one myth about health at every size is they think it means healthy at every size and like everyone no matter how high or how low their weight is you know they're obviously healthy and that it could not be further from the truth. |
| 4:55.1 | And what the data does show is that people who tend to fall at the extremes at extreme low weights extreme high weights tend to have the highest risk of health problems or even risk of you know earlier death. |
| 5:15.1 | And then people who you know who were in this range that is actually much more broad than what our diet culture would allow. |
| 5:23.1 | We could definitely talk more detail about that but that's kind of like the I would say the number one point when you actually read the principles they're really about respectful care. |
| 5:33.1 | And they take into consideration social justice issues which I care deeply about and I would really love to talk to you about to so that's health at every size and then for body kindness i'll just sum that up to say that it's also a philosophy for a way of living that is focused on well being. |
