We're back! On this episode we discuss Juana Barraza, an amateur Mexican wrestler and serial killer dubbed La Mataviejitas (or "The Old Lady Killer") who was sentenced to 759 years in jail for killing eleven elderly women. The first murder attributed to Mataviejitas has been dated variously to the late 1990s and to a specific killing in November of 2003. The authorities and the press have given various estimates as to the total number of the killer's victims, with estimates ranging from 24 to 49 murders.We get into Barraza's tragic beginnings. She was the victim of physical, emotional and sexual abuse at the hands of her alcoholic mother and the men in her life. As a mother, she worked multiple jobs to make ends meet. One of the ways she earned money was by participating as an amateur wrestler in Lucha Libre as La Dama Del Silencio (The lady of silence). We discuss Barraza's crimes, arrest, trial and what she's up to today. Lastly, we share our take aways, shout outs and some tips on how Not to Get Murdered.Thanks for listening!
