Welcome to the June 2014 edition of the Bletchley Park podcast.

The transformation of Bletchley Park is now complete, and on the 18th of June, Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cambridge, will visit to launch the completed restoration.

In this episode, we take you inside Code Breaking Huts 3 and 6

and the new Bloxie Visitor Centre, with the first people to see them restored to their

wartime glory, the veterans themselves. We also delve into the new exhibition, Secrets Revealed,

introducing Bletchley Park, looking at what it uncovers about the Government Code and Cipher

School's involvement in D-Day. First, the 6th of June marked 70 years since the D-Day

landings, an operation in which intelligence gleaned by Bletchley Park played a hugely important

role. We welcomed an RAF veteran who'd used type X machines to help direct aircraft in the days following the Normandy landings.

Sergeant Bernard Morgan met his modern-day equivalent, R-AF Aerospace Battle Manager, Flight Lieutenant Vicky Thorpe.

We're the kind of modern-day equipment, really, and although we don't have

type X, our crypto is a little bit more outdated.

We still use crypto to authenticate and also encryptial numbers.

But effectively, we're doing a very similar job, so we're coordinating the air picture.

And we're deployable, so we've got the type 101 radar, and we've got the various generators,

the tactical control centre that comes with it, so we can deploy anywhere in the world,

a bit like you would have done. We can set up our kit as a sealed unit, and we can look at the air picture,

so we can use that for surveillance to see everything that's going on, but we can also use it

to communicate with forward air controllers. It's obviously a passing process.
