Summary

Tyler Merritt of The Tyler Merritt Project joins us today as we continue the conversation around Black Lives Matter. In 2018 Tyler released a video called “Before You Call The Cops.” This video came about when he was walking across the street one day and realized that a white woman in her car was rolling up the windows and locking her doors because she saw him in the crosswalk. He shares with us every part of that memory from where he was going to what he was listening to on his headphones and it is eye opening. Two years since the birth of this video, it has become more viral and more relevant than ever. 0:16.5	Happy Wednesday to you all. I'm joined by my producer, Chrissy. Chrissy, how you doing?
0:22.6	I'm good, Nick. How are you? I'm doing really good. I'm really looking forward to this episode.
0:29.3	I had an incredible time recording it with my new friend, Tyler Merritt. I came across Tyler's video
0:42.8	last week and I thought it was new. Turns out it's a couple years old. I was really moved by it. I
0:49.2	think Jimmy Kimmel shared it and it got more attention. Yeah. I'm just talking about, you know,
0:55.6	this is who I am and he talked about who he is as a person. And then I saw him, he's apparently
1:04.1	friends with Wells and he posted a picture of Wells and tagged him and it showed up in my explorer
1:08.7	feed. I was like, oh, this is the guy who made this video and I immediately de-armed him and asked
1:12.2	if he'd come on and share his story. I thought, we just have a great conversation. Obviously,
1:19.4	we talk about some of this stuff going on in our world right now and just try to have a
1:23.8	friendly conversation about some of the topics in a way that I think is this relatable for everyone
1:33.0	and good to hear. Tyler's a beautiful man. He's just nice to listen to. So certainly these are
1:41.6	serious topics we're talking about, but I hope that you find it to be light and enjoyable.
1:47.2	He makes you feel better. Yeah. And so in a heavy moment, he really, really does. I really enjoyed
1:52.1	listening to you guys talk. It was really, I cried a couple of times. I got a little, when he was
1:57.6	talking about the growth across the street, just like him just, it was moving. So I really hope
2:08.0	you guys enjoyed as well. Even in these kind of heavy times, we can keep it as light as possible
