Hey everybody welcome back to Story with Ryan Kraus a film and TV

analysis podcast in today's episode we're taking a look at the 1982 hit movie

E TV extraterrestrial which documents our potential future relationship with alien creatures

from outer space, as seen through the lens of an unlikely meeting between a boy and an alien

who have the same problem from different perspectives,

one we all struggle with both physically and emotionally,

which is the question of how to return home

when we've lost our way and become stuck. But more specifically, we have to learn to

get back home having changed, as the point of a journey is to shed your ego, free yourself of the emotional shackles of the path that haunt your mind, and evolve to a place of greater understanding.

We have lives in which our physical predisposition to aging and subsequent mortality leave us with an ironic question about the right way to indulge existence.

We ask, how do I live in a world in which I am doomed to die? How do I

survive? And the answer is to keep moving, or the bad things will catch up to you. Yet that movement has to be

defined as evolution or change and not running away because the place we inevitably flee in tough times is the past.

When we don't want to face change to fight adversity and loss and move on.

We stay.

But the past is a place where survival is impossible.

Emotional death is imminent there.

If we remain stagnant, our past looms over our shoulder and soon

swallows us. It's in those times where we're running and it's chasing us that we need to stop, turn around, and fight.

We have to face the monster, because it truly isn't a monster at all.

It's the thing that's been haunting your mind manifested in the real world.
