I want to turn this towards friendship and towards community,

And he had these five friends before he was enlightened,

before the Buddha came to awakening

that was practicing asceticism.

They were off in the forest and they were together sort of encouraging each other to do like

the most radical austerity and kind of torturing their bodies and this whole

perspective that says this body creates suffering what if we deny all of its

desires right because desire seems to be part of the deny all of its desires.

Right, because desire seems to be part of the problem here, so let's not eat food, let's not wear clothes,

let's not give these bodies any pleasure at all.

Let's torture our bodies.

And they did that for years.

And so, oh, actually, this doesn't end suffering.

Go figure.

It didn't work.

And then finds mindfulness mindfulness comes to awakening and when he decides to teach the path to awakening

first he teaches to his five ascetic friends.

And all five of them become Arahan's.

They understand as the Buddha explains the middle path between the extreme austerity and the total indulgence.

He said this is a middle path.

And they all become Arajan, which means fully awakened beings.
