0:06.0	I want to talk to you today about dual relationships and power with regards to leadership.
0:13.0	When I shared two podcasts around my biggest regrets, my number one regret had to do with dual relationships. And so today I want to actually
0:24.7	talk to you about that. I felt like I couldn't move on without taking a podcast and exploring it
0:32.4	further and more thoroughly. And so today I'm actually going to share with you a short portion
0:36.4	with me reading from the
0:38.1	audiobook of the emotionally healthy leader on this topic.
0:41.0	But let me frame why I'm doing this and the section that I'm going to actually read to you,
0:45.4	because I'm not going to read to you, of course, the whole chapter.
0:47.9	The most powerful lesson I've learned in 40 years of leadership has to do around the theme of dual relationships and power.
0:56.4	In fact, it was the impetus that got me to write the emotionally of the leaded book in the
1:00.4	first place. And I spent by far more time and more drafts on this particular theme than any other
1:07.9	in the entire book. It's rarely discussed in Christian circles among leadership,
1:13.5	except when there's a serious abuse and a scandal. This kind of silence around dual relationships
1:19.3	and power and leadership leads to all kinds of negative consequences. Almost every church,
1:25.6	every nonprofit, organization team, and Christian community that I know,
1:29.1	and I did an informal survey over years, bears deep scars and hurt due to the failure to steward the issue of power
1:36.9	and dual relationships well. We underestimate how fragile each of our churches is, and each nonprofit, each Christian
1:48.2	parish church ministry is.
1:50.0	We're fragile ecosystems.
1:51.7	We're complex.
1:53.2	And it can be quite confusing, if not navigated well.
