Welcome to Media Roots Radio. This is Abby Martin.

This is Robbie Martin. Hi, everybody. Hello. So something bad happened with our SoundCloud. We were trying to expand the

0:23.8

platforms that Media Roots Radio is broadcasted on. And unfortunately, we registered with something

0:29.5

called Player FM. Robbie, is that what it was called? It's called Anchor FM. Oh, Anchor FM.

0:33.9

Which is supposed to be, it seems like it's a good service for people who are just starting

0:38.5

out a podcast who want to take the lazy route and it's supposed to act as a front end

0:44.6

to distribute your podcast to a bunch of other platforms.

0:48.0

But what ended up happening was I stupidly signed up for it without realizing that it wanted

0:52.6

to become the main RSS feed.

0:55.6

And basically what happened is it split all of our stats, our listener stats, into two places.

1:01.1

So you would only be able to see our listens on SoundCloud as being half of what they were before.

1:07.4

And then you see the other half on this anchor FM front end.

1:10.7

So we freaked out and we were like,

1:12.5

what the fuck? Like basically it appeared to set us back literally from the goal that we had, which

1:18.4

is to expand our audience and onto more platform. So appreciate all the recommendations we've gotten

1:24.1

for how to do that from different listeners, but I have a side eye for whoever

1:28.6

recommended Anchor FM to us because it kind of fucked us up. And I don't recommend using it if

1:33.8

you already have an established podcast. There's really no reason to use it. Even SoundCloud itself

1:39.8

allows you to see all the back end stats if you're signed in with all these other services.

1:46.3

So from SoundCloud, you can actually see how many people are downloading and listening

1:50.0

through iTunes and downloading listening through Stitcher. So SoundCloud already pretty much does

1:55.2

all the things Anchor FM does. It just does it in a slightly less neat package. It's a little harder to navigate.
