For many people, perfectionism is a response to trauma. It's not that you just want to do everything perfectly. So, when you are a perfectionist, you have this constant inner voice telling you, 'That's not good enough. You need to do it again.' It's a defense mechanism that we create which can lead to a negative mindset and inner voice that's a constant critic. That can then override these beautiful emotions like joy and love.
