She earned her PhD from the University of Colorado at Boulder, focusing on environmental chemistry. In 1996, Hansen joined 3M's Environmental Lab, where she played a crucial role in identifying and characterizing PFAS contamination in the environment. Her pioneering work on PFAS has been widely cited, contributing significantly to our understanding of these "forever chemicals." After leaving 3M in 2022, Hansen now applies her expertise to address global chemical contamination issues.
