The muscle is the organ of longevity. That's just pitch perfect. If I look at my own evolution

0:05.7

through this when I was doing really hardcore endurance type events, I was doing zero strength

0:13.1

training back there. A lot of it was because of a time management, but it was also like,

0:16.7

I don't need to do that. You know, I'm swimming, I'm running, I'm riding, I'm doing all these

0:20.3

things. I don't need to do it. That's total misconception. Again, you need both. Both of those

0:25.0

pieces are really, really crucial. Dr. Jeremy London, welcome. What is blood pressure and why does it

0:33.2

matter in terms of cardiovascular health? Super simple, you know, just to kind of the bare bones is that blood pressure, to think about

0:42.9

it as a risk factor is the amount of resistance that the heart is seeing with each beat.

0:51.3

Now, that's not the whole picture, but I think that that is the way you should think

0:57.4

about high blood pressure in particular, because that's where the risk comes from. Because as you get

1:05.1

this kind of hypertoned in your blood vessel systemically, that's what's cranking up.

1:11.1

1:15.1

It's seeing more resistance.

1:16.3

Well, the heart is a muscle, just like any other muscle.

1:19.4

And over time, that muscle is going to become thickened and less efficient over time.

1:25.9

And so when you have untreated high blood pressure, not to mention

1:31.2

kidney problems and- That's the thing. It's not just, doesn't just impact your heart,

1:35.6

high blood pressure impacts your kidney just as much. None of these things happen in a vacuum.

1:39.9

Yeah, yeah. You know, everything is, everything is, everything is interconnected. But specifically,

1:46.1

if we're talking about cardiac involvement, that's really where it comes from is the workload

1:52.4

that the heart is seeing. An increased workload over time is dangerous because at some point,

1:59.9

the heart is going to start to fail. And when we look at longevity,
