Take us back a few years and tell us why you decided to enter the field of medicine in the

Yeah, it's interesting.

You know, the day I was born, my parents decided that I was going to be a doctor.

I think this is the case for a lot of Asian

Americans. My dad grew up on a rice farm in Korea, and he became a physician and basically

pulled his family out of poverty and lived the American dream. And so for him and for my mom,

really what they knew coming to the U.S. was that doctor equals success.

And so that's what they decided I was going to be.

And you say that you felt like an outsider growing up.
