U.S. stocks rose today. The Dow Jones Industrial average overcame an early slump rallying 664 points or 1.4%. The S&P 500 rose 0.9%, and the NASDAQ gained 0.7% as markets turned higher in the afternoon.

Delayed economic data was mixed. September retail sales under shot expectations rising 0.2%,

while producer prices ticked up 0.3% in line with estimates. Strong guidance from several major

retailers suggested a solid holiday

shopping season ahead. Among individual companies, Google Parent Alphabet extended its recent

stock surge, with shares rising 1.5% toward a $4 trillion valuation. A report that Facebook owner

Meta Platforms was in talks to spend billions on Google's

AI chips also boosted the stock. Invidia shares sold off 2.6% on a report highlighting potential

AI semiconductor competition from Google. shares in advanced microdevices also dropped, as did other chip stocks.

Novo Nordisk stock rose almost 5% after the pharmaceutical company announced a drug

candidate led to weight loss and diabetes reductions in both injection and pill versions.

And shares of Zoom communications jumped nearly 10% after its quarterly results and annual
