Hi, I'm Toby Young, one of Quilat's London-based editors.

The author and journalist Douglas Murray has just published The Madness of Crowds, gender, race and identity.

A follow-up to his 2017 bestseller, The Strange Death of Europe,

it takes a critical look at the philosophical ideas underpinning the social justice movement.

Douglas is a colleague of mine at The Spectator, where he's an associate editor, and he was the

associate director of the Henry Jackson Society from 2011 to 2018.

In addition to writing six books and co-authoring another three, he's the author of a play

about the Swedish diplomat Raal Wollenberg.

He writes for a range of publications on both sides of the Atlantic and appears regularly

on radio and television where he's usually identified as a conservative intellectual.

The madness of crowds has divided critical opinion along the lines you'd expect, but even the

negative reviews have acknowledged the eloquence of Douglas's prose. In this week's spectator,

Richard Dawkins praises the book as, quote, beyond brilliant, unquote, and says it, quote,

should be read, must be read by everyone.
