Day 51 of Doug's movie a day.

I watched Not Fade Away on Netflix.

A movie I've wanted to see since it came out because it was written and directed by Sopranos creator David Chase.

But then it didn't have that much buzz and it slipped through the cracks.

And I'm sad that it did because I really liked it.

It's about a bunch of teenagers forming a rock band in the 60s.

James Gandalfini plays a dad, but since it takes place in New Jersey, he's kind of like a Tony soprano with no mob ties.

I like the time period, the clothes, the young castes of mostly unknowns.

But holy shit, as one of the band members is the same guy who has a fucked up face on Boardwalk Empire.

I don't watch Boardwalk Empire, but I've seen that guy in his fucked up face in a lot of promos on HBO.

Anyway, not fade away, Doug digs it. Day 52, I saw inside Lewin Davis,

inside a theater in Irvine, California. As a longtime Coen brothers fan, I put this one in their top

30%. The music is good. If long stretches of folk music scares you, then you should probably stay away.

Much has been made of Oscar Isaac's title character being unlikable, but I liked him.

Carrie Mulligan isn't in it enough, if you ask me, and John Goodman plays the biggest asshole in the world.
