Shall we consider the monster for a moment?

We've given a lot of well-deserved attention

to the creators of the creatures,

the monster makers that haunt our cinematic nightmares.

They are the rock stars of horror.

Rick Baker, Greg Nicotero, and Howard Berger from

K&B, the Kyoto brothers, Tom Savini, Billy Corso, so many other brilliant and

talented artists who've taken the art of Monster Maker far beyond anything realized by their forebears, Lahn Cheney,

Jack Pierce, and Dick Smith blazed trails in creature creation that leave an indelible mark to this day.

They make the monsters, but what of the actors who portray them?

Lahn Chaney was known as the Man of a Thousand Faces

and not only played the hunchback of Notre Dame and the Phantom of the Opera, but designed and applied his own extensive makeups.

His son, Lon Chaney Jr. was the Wolfman and the mummy, even Frankenstein's monster, who was first and

inimitably portrayed by the great Boris Karloff.
