We are going to talk today about J.C. Dugard, this awful kidnapping story out of California,

that I've been totally consumed by over the weekend.

And we're also going to talk about the CDC's recent

thinking about the notion of promoting circumcision, which Hannah got into some hot water

about last week on Andrew Sullivan's blog, Daily Dish. And our third topic is a story that ran in

double X recently by Katie Roefe about falling in love with her newborn.

So let's start with this.

I mean, this is really just a harrowing tale.

We have the story of a woman who's now 29, J.C. Dugard.

She was kidnapped at the age of 11, so this is 18 years ago.

And somehow was held in this kind of backyard compound of a man

in Antioch, California, named Philip Gary Doe. And during this long time, she's been held in

captivity longer than she ever lived as a free child in the world. She had two children of her own.

And it's just this really hard to understand and hard to get one's mind around story

about why no one knew this was happening, how she could have been manipulated to this degree,
