I'm John Batchel with my colleagues, Simon Constable, writing for the Wall Street Journal

and other distinguished publications. He takes us to March of 2000, the day the music died.

I was on an aircraft headed to Disneyland in Florida, Disney World is called, with my family and on the back of the seat in

front of me, Delta at the time, my memory, maybe it was American, I think it was Delta, put a

screen up that you could watch news in real time, so I was watching the market when it touched

the NASDAQ when it touched 5,000. And then what happened, Simon?

Then what happened is it basically,

but shortly thereafter, it basically started a dive that lasted a few years.

So the index tumbled by 77% from early March, right through to early October 2002.

And we just went down, down, down, down.

Now, its real high was up to 5,048.62.

That was the index for the NASDAq and it it surpassed the five thousand

now it's at twenty thousand one hundred and seventy four which is which was the record last year

um that was the big high so if you'd held on anyone who'd held on would have done very, very well.

I wonder if you know anyone like that.

I do not because you're talking about holding on the S&P 500 or some comparable index as opposed

to the companies themselves.
