A few weeks ago, a few of my girlfriends and I had the most incredible gathering.

We went over to my friends Casey's place, we drank wine, we smoked a little cannabis,

maybe we microdosed on some shrooms.

But without going to too much detail, we were able to have the most fluid and amazing conversations.

A few of us were childhood friends, so we were really able to go back in time and laugh about the past.

And when I say laugh, I mean deep, belly hurting, crying rivers of joy laughter.

And it was probably one of my favorite nights in all of 2020.

It was very needed after a stressful year.

So as my girlfriends and I were having these talks,

Dasha, a third generation laser treatment specialist, told us all about dopamine fasting.

When she spoke those words, the title immediately got my attention.

Dopamine fasting, quite literally, means taking a break from the things that spike our dopamine levels.

I told Dasha right then and there that when she spoke those words,

I had to research it and do a podcast on it.

So that's the background story of why this episode is called Tori Dealing With Dopamine Fasting.

My first website that I pulled up when I typed in the topic into Google was a document from Harvard Medical School title, Dopamine Fasting,

misunderstanding science spawns a maladaptive fad.

Dr. Cameron Sipa, a psychiatrist, first coined the phrase dopamine fasting

with the intention to catch people's attention.

And clearly it worked because the moment Dasha said those words, my eyes lit up.
