Summary

Brown Girl Self-Care is where Black women reclaim our wholeness and power in a world that demands our labor but denies our humanity. Here, the care of ourselves—and the care for each other—become sacred acts of justice, powerful ways of honoring our humanity in a world that doesn’t. Let’s take this journey together—we are worthy of this care.

First things first! I want to invite you to join me on May 14th at 7pm CDT for the "Take The Mic, Take up Space!" Podcasting 101 Workshop for Black women. You can sign up right here. This is a virtual event, being held on Zoom, that I'm hosting where I'll teach you how to get your podcast started, no more excuses. If you've been looking for a sign to start using your voice, this is it.

Now, onto todays episode. Have you ever been called boring or even a square? I have been several times and I allowed that to shame me into trying to be someone that i was never intended to be. I realized that the idea that I was too boring to show up or share parts of my life online (parts that I deem aren't too private or sacred) had a huge impact on my business and and even how I felt about myself. If this is you too, I'm sharing some takeaways I want you to consider.

0:44.8

your best quote unquote boring life. I'm going to give you a few things I've kind of been thinking

0:50.7

about that will hopefully help you in this journey. If you feel like,

0:54.7

you know, you have to be out there doing all this razzle-dazzle nonsense to fit in, to belong,

1:00.4

to be validated, to feel loved, to feel like you can go out and live a life that you deserve,

1:07.5

which that's not true. But I thought that for a very long time. I struggled with that,

1:11.6

struggled with that for a very long time. But before, very quickly, before I get into this

1:16.6

episode, I just want to remind you in case you did not know that on May 14th at 7 p.m. Central

1:22.5

Daylight Time, I am offering a free F-R-R-E, that spells free.

That really resonated with me when I was thinking about names for this because I don't know if you know this about me, but as a people pleaser or I used to really focus on people pleasing, I was afraid to use my voice. I was afraid to take up space. I would just continue to shrink, shrink, shrink, shrink myself down to size to fit the narratives of other

2:02.0

people set.

2:03.1

So that coincidentally, this is something else that I would do as a coping mechanism to feel like

2:08.3

I could fit in, to feel like I was worthy, to be validated, validated, to feel like I was

2:12.7

enough, et cetera.

2:13.5

So take the mic, take up space is going to be on Zoom again on May 14th.

2:19.2

And I'm going to be dropping gyms on how I started the podcast, why I started the podcast,

2:23.1

the tools that I started off with, girl, the tools that I'm using now.
