It's what runners here before a race.

First, get into starting position and last, begin running.

But what about the second command?

Get set.

Well, get set is the part I love the best,

especially when the race we're about to run is metaphysical.

No matter what we're facing, taking that moment to get set, to acknowledge our

entirely spiritual identity, is to do what Mary Bakeretti reiterates from the Bible in her book, Science and Health with Key to the

Scriptures. Pause. Wait on God. Most of us like to go, and sometimes pausing for the get-set part can seem hard to do. But Jesus was never in a hurry.

He was always ready to pause and wait on God. Getting set is not procrastinating. It's an active quality of listening, taking a moment to feel God's

presence. Mary Baker Eddy once faced a lawsuit, charging her with mental incapacity to take care of her affairs.

It was a thinly veiled scheme to appropriate Eddie's large estate, which she was devoting to furthering the cause of Christian science.

The court-appointed lawyers took her testimony at her home in New Hampshire.

As she went to her study to receive the examiners,

her companion noticed that Eddie paused for a few seconds

at the door before entering the room.

At the end of the interview, which completely vindicated her,

Eddie was questioned by her companion about why she had paused before entering the study.

Her answer? I was waiting for the Christ to go before me.
