Boxing has always been a sport that's run deep in, let's call it the underworld.

For as long as people have been fighting for money, people have been buying off refs or

throw on matches.

Managers and promoters have been doing whatever they could to make a buck off of young fighters

before their time was up.

All of that was built into boxing way before Don King got in the game.

But Culture writer Michael Herry says, a world built on backroom deals and under the table

payments, let Don play with strengths.

I mean, it's a criminal enterprise.

This world that Don King exists in.

If you are going to be in that world, you kind of need somebody like Don King who you know

can maneuver in that world.

And Don sure as hell could maneuver, especially when the law got close.

I mean, they tried.

Like the time of U.S. attorney by the name of Rudy Giuliani came for Don with dozens of

fraud charges.

In 1992, Don even got called to testify by a Senate committee looking into allegations

of corruption and boxing.
