Having a strategy creates for us a sense of calm. It elicits authentic, real confidence.

It's a beautiful thing when things go the way that you wanted them to. But like Mike Tyson said,

everybody has a plan until they get hit in the mouth. Very few are ready for the storms.

And if they are, they imagine a simple umbrella will do. In order

to truly separate yourself from the competition, you've got to have contingency plans for the

disasters, for the misfortunes, for the pitfalls that are inevitably going to face. You must be like

a wide receiver in the West Coast offense, ready to break

off your route early once you see the play break down and make a play like only a true

superstar can. Now in order to condition these responses, you must anticipate. This is

West Coast anticipation.

Napoleon Bonaparte said,

anyone can plan a campaign,

but few are capable of waging war because only a true military

genius can handle the developments and circumstances. You gotta be fluid. You can't possibly

think that everything is gonna happen exactly as you plan. Carl von Klausvitz said this,

the enemy of a good plan is the dream of a perfect plan.

You don't want to get too attached to your plan,

and you want to make sure that your plan has contingencies.

Bill Walsh was one of the greatest coaches of all time,

and he was famous for his ability to anticipate

and have scripted plays in response to those quote-unquote rainy days.

And Bill Walsh said this,
