When I went off to college at the State University of New York at Buffalo, I'm a state

school guy, though I did later go to Columbia J school. I had no idea what I wanted to do in life,

and my goal for my first year was chase girls, play and get good grades but in that first week

I wandered into the newspaper office there called the spectrum came out three times a week

Monday Wednesday and Friday and it was independent.

Most of our money came from advertising, had a business manager who would sell ads.

And we would investigate the administration and dig up stuff sometimes.

You know, there was national and state and local news in the spectrum and i just

this was what i wanted to do but i didn't really have a sense that you know i could make a living at it

but i figured it's fun while you're in college. So it was a staff writer in the first year.

My second year, I was campus editor.
