Hello and welcome back to Kindled. I'm excited on this eve of the 4th of July, Independence Day, to bring you guys a new episode. It has nothing to do with 4th of July, but it does have to do with the topic that I think you'll find very interesting. I'm interviewing Francine Tan, who is an ACBC certified biblical counselor from Malaysia. And we are discussing Bessel van der Kolk's

the body keeps the score and evaluating the ideology behind that book from a biblical perspective.

And really comparing and contrasting a lot of the underlying assumptions and beliefs that go along with

that are necessary to truly accept the premise of that book. And it's been wildly popular.

It's been so influential in culture. And I'm sure many of you have seen the effects of it,

even if you didn't realize that you were. That was the case for me, as you'll hear in this conversation.

So I'm really excited to bring that conversation to you in just a second, but before I do,

I just want to say happy Fourth of July. I hope you guys have a wonderful holiday

celebrating with your loved ones and just enjoying the fact that you live in such a great nation.

And I pray that we can celebrate that with a lot of fireworks and some good food and friendship,

as well as be reinvigorated to continue fighting for that which is worthy of preserving

in this nation. And that is a biblical understanding of man. And a system of government that is

rooted in and based on biblical principles and governing ideals that aligns with scripture

and actually is in agreement with what God says about who we are

and the rights that we have given from him that come from him. And it's not unrelated to today's

episode because we are discussing a secular understanding of man and really a very worldly

perspective and theory

that is in defiance and in complete opposition to what scripture teaches.

And so it's relevant.

It's relevant and it's also timely in the conversation today, in culture, what is happening,

and really just a lot of syncretism in the

church that is choosing to accept secular theories about man and who he is and what can cure him
