Summary

While the Bible teaches that some divorces are justified, some people think that the command to “forgive… as God in Christ forgave you” requires us to NEVER divorce, because we must forgive even those offenses that would normally justify a divorce. So the bottom line is that this means you can never get a divorce, even if a justifiable reason for divorce

has happened in that marriage, you still can't get a divorce because you have to forgive that other person.

I think this is based on a fundamental confusion on what it means to forgive as Christ forgave.

So let's look at what the scripture teaches on this topic, Ephesians chapter 4,

Here we read, be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave you.

So not just forgiving each other and one another in any way, shape, or form with no qualifications but rather as God in Christ forgave us.

And I think God forgiving us in Christ is the model for how we go about dealing with forgiveness
