Josh Rogin is here for global opinions at the Washington Post to

introduce us to the mission of Tower 22 and its attendant network in a

remote part of Jordan, of Syria, and Iraq.

Josh, a very good evening to you.

First, let us establish what the mission is,

and then we'll talk about interrupting that mission with a withdrawal.

What is the description that you understand about why Tower 22 was out there so vulnerable

to these attacks?

Good anything, John. Well, you know, when you... out there is so vulnerable to these attacks.

Good anything, John.

Well, you know, when one hears the name Tower 22,

one thinks of a tower.

And to be sure, there is a big watchtower located at the strategic part of the Jordanian Northeast Desert

right next to the Syrian border, also right next to the Iraqi border.

It's one, there's a whole bunch of towers and there's tower one, there's

tower two, there's tower three, but when you get to tower 22, it's not just a

tower. It is a base that has 350 American soldiers, non-combat soldiers, at any

living there at any given time and a bunch of helicopters and other stuff too.

And what's going on at that base is that they are coordinating what is an ongoing now, I guess, multi-decade mission of fighting ISIS or at least stopping ISIS from retaking that strategic area.
