Hey, welcome back to another episode of the Catholic talk show today. We're going to be talking about why you need to be going to Mass on Sunday.

That's right. Every Sunday. We're going to talk about the Sunday obligation, uh, what the church teaches about our duty to attend Mass on Sunday, and why we go to Mass on a Sunday at all.

Every Sunday, every Sunday, every Sunday.

All right. You got to go to Mass every Sunday. Yes, you do. And we're here to tell you why. That's right. Why? I don't know. Maybe we can figure it out with this show.

I'm pretty sure that we're going to be able to accomplish that. Um, I'm sure you get that a lot. You know, as in your line of work, the whole priesthood thing that you got going on.

Do we really have to go every Sunday? I mean, isn't it good enough that we're good people? Is it a good enough that I pray? I'm a good person person. I don't need to kill anybody.

I can tell myself if I'm a good person. I don't need to go to a building every Sunday. For God to see what I'm doing.

I start out every morning with prayer. I look in the mirror and I say, I'm great. I'm wonderful. Everybody likes me. I don't need to go to Mass. I'm good.

You're lucky. You're lucky. You're lucky. You're lucky. You know, why? Why? The great reformer of the Catholic church in St. Teresa of Avala in the 16th century.

Carmelite reformer. Just incredible. Very, very holy woman. She expressed, you know, once she was overwhelmed with God's goodness and love and asked our Lord, how can I thank you?

And Jesus responded to her attend one mass. You know, just the sense of what Eucharist is, Eucharistine is Thanksgiving to God. Jesus is helping us.

Root our attention back to the Father and to express thanksgiving for all that he's given us. The greatest offense in the Old Testament, scripturally speaking, and a big shout out to Father Clay Ludwig, who opened my eyes to this.

He said, the fact that the children of Israel forgot. They forgot the covenant. They forgot how God graced them. You know, and when you pair that with St. Ignatius of Loyola, another great reformer in the 16th century.

He said, the greatest offense before God is in gratitude. The fact that we don't recognize with attention, what God has given us, and be grateful for it. Our minds can be so distracted and how fitting that once a week, we come to God and we give thanks.

You know, and I think that's you brought some really good points there. Does God need us to go to mass every Sunday? Nope. God doesn't need anything. We need it. We need it. Yes. We need to go to mass.

And beyond needing to go to mass, we should want to go to mass every Sunday. It is a good thing. Intrinsically, it adds so much to your life.

But for those who need the motivation of the need to go to mass, the church does teach, you know, as a Catholic, you have an obligation. There is a precept. It is a law of the church. You must go to mass every Sunday.

Under the pain of having committed a grave and mortal sin. Yeah, it is a mortal sin to not go to mass on a weekly basis.

Delacross, you have kids, and I'm sure you hear this all the time from your kids. Like, why do I have to go to mass? Or why do we have to go to church?

I don't hear that from you. Don't know. How is that? How do you think that if you don't hear that from your kids? Because I hear it from a lot of, I mean, that's not to say that they listen.

And there's a reason why I'm asking this question, because I had a feeling, and it's the same with your kids, too, she'll, you know, I can't imagine either of your, you know, your kids saying, you know, why do we have to go to church? And I wonder why?

Yeah. Oh, it's funny. I just recalled one time I was sitting next to Leo, and he was like, maybe in kindergarten or something. And he didn't want to be there. And he's like, Dad, I don't even know why I need to be here. I don't even believe in God.
