Summary

One of the most important things in the Gospel of Mark is the identity of Jesus. But many people don't realize that Mark is telling who Jesus is through the stories about what Jesus did. When we look at the text carefully we can see one amazing revelation after another revealing the "high Christology" of the gospel of Mark. In other words, the skeptics who sometimes claim Mark has a low view of the person of Christ are completely mistaken. In the passage we are in today (6:45-56) we will see that Jesus' walking on water has an interesting connection to the book of Job and, once again, is best explained by connecting the person of Christ to God Himself. I'll also tackle some challenges to the accuracy of the Gospel of Mark when he talks about the journey's of the disciples across the Sea of Galilee. 0:10.2	So here we are in Mark 6 verse 45 this This is the Mark series part 22 dealing with theology and apologetics.
0:16.4	We're going to do both of those topics heavy today in the theology. That's what I'm most excited about,

0:22.7	content we're going to start with in Mark some supposed geographical problems in the
0:27.1	Gospel of Mark and I'll offer some resolutions to those. This is the passage about
0:31.5	Jesus walking on the water and the main thing I want you to pick up on is that this like so many of the other passages in the Gospel of Mark that Jesus does something, he heals somebody, he forg forgives somebody he casts out a demon
0:44.3	The purpose of these passages is to tell us who Jesus is and that is very strong in the gospel of Mark that the identity of Christ is being communicated by the
0:55.5	activity of Christ. And so I'll show you why I'm excited about this because we keep
1:00.7	seeing it over and over again. You grab any one of these stories by itself and you are pushed to see Christ for who he is, right? He is God with us. And that's a big deal, especially because modern, not even just modern, but also some of the older scholars would like to say,
1:16.7	only some of the scholars, obviously the non-Christian ones generally want to say this,
1:20.8	that in the Gospel of Mark you have a low Christology that Mark has a low view of who Jesus is and that by the time you get to John you have a high Christology and this is just not true. There's a different way of
1:34.3	communicating in Mark than in John. And when we look at Mark and how he's
1:38.5	communicating who Christ is, we see his high Christology. So here we are, Mark
1:42.0	6. I'm going to read the whole passage. We
1:44.4	want to get it all into our minds. This is our Bible study. So starting in
1:48.1	verse 45, all the way through verse 56. So we're going to finally finish
1:51.6	Mark chapter 6 today.
1:53.0	We've gone to Mark chapter 7.
1:55.0	This has been the marathon chapter for us.
