Maybe you've heard of me before. I'm the guy who sneaks into your house at night and

sprinkle special magical dust into your eyes to make you fall asleep.

What you might not know is that I help lots of other creatures go to sleep.

Donkeys, armadillos, lobsters, You get the idea. It's a lot of responsibility. But I am the Sandman, after all. I knew what I was getting into when I applied for this job. And like I told the interviewer that day, my biggest weakness is that I just care too much. Anyway, I've been on the hunt for some new animals that I can help put to sleep,

and I've been thinking about butterflies. That's right, butterflies. They're so beautiful and delicate, and they can fly such amazingly long distances. They must need to sleep, right? I actually

got the idea for my friend, Mia.

And my question is, do butterflies sleep?

Yes, so butterflies do sleep. It doesn't look the same as human sleep, so they don't have beds or even nests where they go.

So they have to find somewhere that's relatively protected at night because butterflies are typically active during the day.

Hi, my name is Meredith Sensor, and I'm an entomologist, which means that I am an expert in

insects. So they'll find somewhere safe at night. It might be just perched on the underside of a

leaf and then they lower their antenna down and they get their body nice and close to the surface of the leaf.

And then they just fall asleep.

They don't have eyelids so their eyes won't close.
