This is a series of CBS Island the world. I'm John Bachelor. Freedom. I learned from

Verneek to Reggie of the Mercata Center, the George Gibbs chair and political

economy, that the word freedom was all over the Chicago Convention for the Democratic

National Committee. It is repeated again and again on the campaign trail by the Harris Wall's campaign.

Good for them, says Veronique and why.

Veronique, a very good evening to you.

The word freedom is constant in American life because we sing songs

about it. However, it wasn't until you mentioned it that I noticed it was

missing from a lot of our conversation these last years under Donald Trump.

He doesn't use the word much.

He tends to be gloomy and his operatic presentation includes dark days ahead and less.

However, the Democrats are going at least from the convention in a different direction.

How and why?

Good evening to you so much has been said about this word freedom and about the fact that probably what this team, Harris and Waltz, mean by freedom is very different than what you and I mean by freedom and the audience.

That said, I was nicely surprised by the fact that this campaign put on a positive face and a love of the country which is a very nice change from what we've seen.

The change however requires explanation. The Democratic Committee approaches this, understanding how it's going to work across

America.

One, I can't tell if it's working or not, the race remains tied. Two, you mention how freedom can mean

different things to different people. These last years under Mr. Biden, freedom has

been translated into the government spending an enormous amount of money

and pretty much telling us how to drive cars, heat our homes, and live out our lives.

Is that freedom?
