After nearly three decades of mystery, DNA has finally helped solve the cold case homicide of a floral designer and mother of two in Washington State.

Back on January 3rd, 1997, the body of Margaret Anselmo was found in a snowy alley laying face down under an abandoned semi-truck trailer.

Police say she was raped and bludgeoned to death and the victim of an apparent random act of violence.

The spokesman review reports Anselmo was only outside that day because she had left her an apartment

to cash a check and when she was found underneath that semi-truck trailer, the money was still

inside her purse. Evidence left by Anselmo's killer was collected but the case went cold

until three years ago when that evidence was submitted to a forensic lab in Texas.

Using genetic genealogy, police got a hit, identifying the suspect as Brian James Anderson,

who died by suicide in 2009. He was just 20 years old when he's believed to have murdered Anselmo.
