I'm Dan Kovach, which of D.K. Pittsburgh Sports, joined out in Philadelphia by our roving reporter Chris Hallick,

who takes on all tasks with equal zeal and zest and pursuit of the truth from the

commissioner of Major League Baseball. Yeah, it's been a fun week, man. It really has. It's always, this is my third year in a row covering the All-Star game and All-Star Week festivities. And it's, I know what to expect now whenever I do it because I've, you know, done it enough. But it's still, it's still fun and something I do look forward to.

The event today is going to be the 96th Major League Baseball All-Star game.

The real event actually took place this morning.

And that's when the commissioner of baseball, Rob Manfred, and the head of the

union, Bruce Meyer, players union, will meet with members of the Baseball Writers Association of

America, of which Chris happens to be a member. And what they do is they take turns in a year like this where the labor agreement is up,

attempting to make their case even as they answer questions.

And they're obviously not doing this at the same time because that would be weird.

They come in separately.

Your general impression, Chris, if I said to you that there's going to be baseball in April of 2027, what would you say?

Absolutely not.

Absolutely not.

No chance.

Why is that?

Just the overwhelming feeling, which I expected from the player's side, just given the history of the decades that they have vehemently fought against anything resembling a salary cap, I expected them to come out swinging when it came to the suggestion of any proposal for Major League Baseball on a salary cap system or what nlb is actually calling a

cap and floor system which makes a lot more sense uh yeah yeah um but i i asked rob manfred

today directly like knowing that uh how united are the owners on this front and he said that this is the most united

he's ever seen this ownership group being uh and and his entire time in baseball is what is what he

said so and he goes back before his commissioner days right Right. So I expect there, I took it as both sides have, have, have, are digging in and presented a united front for their respective sides.
