sports this is a special edition of daily shot of stealers in light of the team hiring Mike McCarthy to be its 17th

head coach that was made official the verbal agreement between the team and McCarthy

yesterday afternoon soon enough there will be a signing press conference,

the whole deal, and the team will have its replacement for Mike Tomlin. No, this is not

inspiring. This isn't something where you go, wow, it's a new dawn of football in Pittsburgh and how things are going to be

done. And largely because McCarthy is 62, a fourth name to add to the pantheon of coaches who will

have been around for years and years and years.

It's also not an opportunity really to restart anything or to move into the year 2026,

never mind beyond it when it comes to imagination, innovation.

It's not any of those things.

And I have the strongest feeling based on everything that I've seen, heard, and read from you over these past 24 hours, that it feels to a lot of

people like just a great big letdown, a chance that was there, a chance that was wasted.

And I've not only sensed that, I've experienced it myself.

I've got points of criticism.

Serious points of criticism. How? Do Art Rooney and Omar Khan justify not waiting out the Rams who are playing today on Championship Sunday and have those in-person interviews with both

Chris Shula and Nate Shilhas.

What was the rush?

What was the need to accelerate this agreement with McCarthy,

who really hadn't been all that heavily sought

and was probably going to be available to you regardless?

Why not?
