In a small bit of news that might sound big, the Steelers yesterday confirmed for D.K. Pittsburgh

Sports that they'll be declining Broderick's fifth year option.

As such, he'll be able to go into unrestricted free agency after this coming season.

May 1, or today, represents the deadline every year for picking up those fifth-year options.

And if Omar Khan had picked this one up, the team would have been paying Broderick a fully guaranteed $19.1 million

in the 2027 season. So like I said, not exactly the most seismic development. The football team

will know this off season.

You'd be crazy to be putting that kind of money into somebody who's at the moment saddled

with so much uncertainty.

For anybody who doesn't know, Broderick is working his way back from an upper back injury.

I see it described occasionally as a neck injury.

The kid himself told me in Chicago when it happened to him that it was somewhere in that area.
