Paul Skeens was unable to make it through an inning in very large part because of O'Neill Cruz's

not one, but two blunders in center field on back-to-back

at bats, no less.

Skeen's pitch count got to 37, which is crazy high for the first inning right out of

spring training.

Don Kelly was absolutely correct to go out and get him and from there pretty much everything spiraled.

But if it sounds to you like I'm hedging on that, I am. Why? Well, the two new guys who've yet to be

infected by Buccoitis or whatever it is that you'd want to call it looked pretty good.

Brandon Lau hit two home runs, and I hesitated on that because the first one was just this

wall scraper that was aided by a Bradenton-like wind, but the second one, he drilled it.
