Yeah, they missed out on Kazuma Okamoto.

No, I legitimately don't think it's that big a deal that they did.

This is Daily Shot of Pirates, presented by our good friends over at the

North Shore Tavern. If you're into football and or hockey, I also offer daily shots of

Steelers and Penguins in the same place that you found this. Okamoto, in approaching his

window to sign as a free agent out of Japan, ended up choosing

the Blue Jays, four years and $60 million. That, not surprisingly at all, was met with a lot of

standard cynicism about the pirates and their intentions and their sincerity and

were they even in on this guy? Do they just pretend to do this? There are a couple of complications

that I have with some of that, not all of it. One is that for anybody who didn't dig into

Okamoto's recent history, he's trending toward

becoming a full-time first baseman. He did mostly play third overseas. Even the Toronto

brass acknowledged over the weekend in getting that done that in all likelihood he is going to end up

at first.

They didn't say this, but you don't need anybody to say it when there are numbers.

He's not that great defensively.
