The Stars and Jason Robertson reached agreement on a one-year $12 million deal that'll

avoid arbitration for both parties.

If that sounds anticlimactic, it should because Robertson, who just had 45 goals and 96 points, this past season will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this coming season.

Neither of which does the Pittsburgh franchise any good, at least not for now.

If you're looking around the league and scouting for legitimately elite talent,

the list isn't all that thick,

at least nowhere near as thick as some of us might have expected,

as recently as a month ago, just before the free agency

season opened. There still aren't firm resolutions on a lot of fronts, and not going to get

into each one of them individually. We've talked about them for weeks now, whether it's Dylan

Larkin, Austin Matthews, Ellie Ash Pedersen,

but I'll say it again.

With every one of these pins that falls, the notion, the eye-popping notion that Kyle Dubus

is going to go make some tantalizing transaction that's going to transform the penguins in the span of a single summer,

it just doesn't seem all that likely.
