Summary

The past few months have given us a glimpse of what the world has the potential to be – a world where we work and commute less, where we have more time in our day to take care of ourselves, and most importantly: where justice is for all. In a world that rewards you for putting work and the idea of success above all else, the pursuit of joy and the practice of self-care is a radical tool of resistance and liberation.  These are the words from this week’s very special guest, Latham Thomas (follow @glowmaven and @mamaglow on Instagram!). Latham is a maternal wellness maven, best-selling author of “Own Your Glow”, Birth Doula, and proud mama who is transforming the world of birth and motherhood. Along with supporting women in optimal wellness and spiritual growth, she also finds time to advocate for birth equity and to bridge policy gaps in maternal health.  This episode will provide an eye-opening look into the wellness field (where so much change needs to happen!), show you how racism weaponizes tools of consciousness, and give you steps you can take within your own community to look for joy while dismantling the systemic issues that keep others from finding theirs. really deep within me personally. She is a birth doula maternal wellness maven, best-selling author

and a proud mama who's transforming the world of birth and motherhood. Leading a revolution in

0:34.8

radical self-care, Latham supports women in embracing optimal wellness and spiritual growth,

0:40.4

and she advocates for birth equity to bridge policy gaps and maternal health.

Please help me welcome this power woman to the show, Latham Thomas. Hi Rachel, thank you so much for

0:52.7

to introduce me to the show, Latham Thomas. I love how succinct it was. It's a big intro. You have a

0:58.0

really big bio. I don't even know where to start. Wow. So this podcast, it's called From The Heart

1:05.6

and I like to lead with that, speaking completely from the heart in this moment. How are you doing?

1:12.6

I feel good today. I make a practice of trying to keep my heart light. Like, levity I think is

1:22.3

so important especially in the times that we're living in. Yeah, I mean, I think it's been a really

1:27.3

challenging year for everyone, right? But certainly in past few weeks have been really charged and

1:34.5

it's just been, I think, a reminder that the reason that we have these practices are to meet moments

1:41.3

like this and to really lean into self-care and really lean into joy as an act of liberation, joy as an

1:50.3

act of self-love. And so that's really just been part of my practice is to find my way out of

2:00.0

whatever is happening around us and be in that dialogue. Just to kind of keep above it all,

2:08.4

because I think it can be really, I mean, if you turn the news, it's challenging. If you go outside

2:13.6

and you see that there's a lot of suffering, it can keep you in a place where that can

2:20.0

lead to further despair. And so I think that part of our practice has to be one of the pursuit of

2:26.8

joy also while we're on a front line spiting while we're in the streets resisting, there has to be
