Our guest this week is Andrew Morrance,

among many other accomplishments, a staff writer at the New Yorker magazine,

and author of the new book anti-social online extremists techno

utopians and the hijacking of the American conversation.

Welcome Andrew. Thank you for being here. Thanks for having me yeah much

appreciate it. So I haven't had a chance to read the entire thing.

Tell us about the book.

So it's, on one level, it's kind of a taxonomy

of all the weirdos on the internet in a sense there's a lot of you know in

another in another sense it's a more of a deep conceptual exploration of how we got to the

place where our informational ecosystem is so fundamentally

broken. I think everybody who has ever been on the internet kind of feels that

something about the way we've built this stuff is not working and I wanted to sort of get to the bottom of why in a sense why that is and

You know it's it's complex and and multifactorial, but I also I didn't want to just make it an argument I didn't

want to just do a screed about like you know some people have picked it up and

see no antisocial this is probably your like argument about why you're

anti-social media it's not really that I mean part of it is that part of
