Hello and welcome to best laid plans. This is your host, Sarah Hart Unger, and this is the podcast where we talk all things planning and planning adjacent.

0:17.1

Today we have a bit of a mixed bag. I'm going to talk a little bit about the take-home points that I got from doing digital detox. A little bit about my word of the year for 2024. Yes, I'm already thinking about that. And some things about seasonal planning and a little bit of holiday fun coming up. So we will go ahead and get started. So digital detox.

0:40.5

Digital detox is a program that I was inspired to create because I myself am really interested in how I can

0:52.1

better use my device in ways that serve me and not use it in ways

0:57.0

that don't serve me. And I've done a number of episodes about that. I think there was one called

1:01.2

like from the heart screen time thoughts that I can link to. But it did seem like a lot of people

1:06.4

had similar challenges to what I had. And I had read a number of books making different

1:11.3

suggestions about how to conquer these habits. And I had made a decent amount of progress myself.

like-minded people who had similar goals and put together a program to help us all

use our phones more intentionally, phones, computers, any kind of screens.

1:34.8

And I launched this over the summer, which was interesting timing.

1:38.5

I don't think it's necessarily peak timing for wanting to do a digital detox.

1:43.9

I think in general, people in the

1:46.3

summer are just kind of enjoying live, vacationing, hanging out with family, and are not necessarily

1:53.2

thinking as much about habits. But for me, this is something that comes up all of the time,

1:58.6

so I decided to launch it then. So we did get a group of passionate

2:02.0

individuals. It was a little bit of a smaller group, but it was decent size. And we met four times

2:08.6

via Zoom for the formal part of the program. And then we did two additional follow-up sessions.

2:14.6

I created a workbook because I always like to create a workbook because who doesn't like a nice, well-designed workbook. And then we also had a little bit of a

2:21.5

WhatsApp thread, which was kind of funny. People were like, well, I want this thread to be

2:25.3

active, but I also don't want to use it. So, you know, that kind of came full circle. But it was a
