Summary

My life get’s really darn hard. There are so many days I don’t feel like I can cope and yet somehow I’ve maintained 40lbs of weight loss, while running a business, being a busy mama and having a husband with a disability.

10 years ago I did NOT have the toolkit to make that happen and it’s been trial and error and many books on behavioural science later that I have a toolkit of 6 habits/mindsets that keep me going on my worst days.

They are:

  1. I know that 100% effort isn’t required to see results, but SOME consistent effort is always needed.
  2. Consistent minimal effort beats intensity EVERY time. You don’t need to sprint, but you do need to put 1 foot in front of the other. Ask yourself what that looks like everyday. It changes.
  3. I don’t pendulum swing. Your circumstances aren’t binary, behaviour doesn’t need to be either. I’m looking for the best I can do even on my worst days
  4. I set minimum targets rather than big goals.
  5. I have a level of external support and accountability even when I’m feeling like I can’t do things.
  6. I make my life easier so I’m more likely to follow through on good behaviour.

Simple tools but they truly work.

Music lean. Can't wait to get started. Let's do this. Hello, welcome to the podcast. I'm super excited for this one because it's been a couple of weeks since I have consistently been making content. You might hear it in my voice recovering from the flu. And I was inspired by this idea of how do I stay consistent when life gets really difficult? How do I not gain weight all the time when things kept really

stressful? Because my life is not picture perfect. And from what I can see and surmise on social

media, which is a total fallacy anyway, other people's lives appeal to be really, really good. They've got time to work

out. They've got these kind of beautiful gyms where they film content and they've got access to

year-round cherry tomatoes, which I certainly don't have and sunlight and all of these things

and they're sponsored by amazing companies, clothing companies, and all this stuff.

2:04.2

That's really not actually true. It's a snippet of people's lives. But I think my perception or my tendency to see this as normal or as someone else having an easier method of succeeding because their life feels easier.

2:24.5

I think that's a common theme.

2:26.1

I think that we all feel victimized sometimes and that we all feel like, well, my life is just really hard

2:32.8

and therefore it's going to be more difficult for me to actually see success.

2:36.6

We put this at our ability to succeed on something outside of our control, which is that our circumstances should be better.

2:47.7

I'm here to tell you that you can be successful regardless of your life being difficult,

2:53.2

regardless of you having everything together and your circumstances can be crap. You can still

2:58.2

succeed. The benefit of thinking this way is that you will much more likely achieve your goals.
