Welcome to the Eat This Not That Podcast. I'm John Hammond, and this is Megan Murphy. Hi, everyone. How's it going? And in this episode, we're going to get back to our new series, Diet Decoded. If you recall, and hopefully you listened, we broke down the ketogenic diet or keto diet in a previous episode. So now we're getting back to this. And in this episode, we're going to go old school, right, Megan? Real old school. Way old school. We're going to go,

we're going back to the Paleolithic days and breaking down the paleo diet, which has been around

now for, I feel like, a little bit. Do you know anyone, or have you ever gone paleo or know anyone who's gone paleo?

0:54.4

I know people have gone paleo. I haven't myself tried it. Like I haven't really channeled that inner cave woman yet. What's her name? Pebbles from the Flintstones, that's what I think of. Yes. But I do know that it works for a lot of people. It's very buzzy. People talk about it. So I'm excited because before recording this episode, I actually schooled myself a little bit on paleo. I wasn't so

familiar. But yeah, I mean, I'm excited to break down the pros and cons today. I've never gone

paleo and quite the opposite. As I've mentioned before, I've gone more closer to vegetarian than the opposite. But it's funny because my brother tends to skew more paleo. And I had a lot of friends that I worked with a few years back that all went paleo. They were all in the crossfit. And I feel like it was like a parallel track, right? It became really popular a few years ago. Exactly. Exactly. They're doing tough mudder. You're doing tough mudder. You're a

tough mutter. You were a Spartan race. Totally. You were looking, you were getting rabdo, whatever it was. But I do feel like there were, there were parallel tracks that kind of brought paleo to the forefront. It kind of, to me, it kind of mirrored that crossfit. And it's funny. It's like, you know, these guys, they were, like, I've never, I've never seen so much beef jerky in my life.

1:45.0

I love a beef jerky, but you got...

1:46.8

But it was just like beef jerky in my life.

1:45.2

It's just like, beef jerky everywhere, eggs everywhere. It was, it was crazy.

1:50.2

So, so, but, but look, it's, it's still around.

1:53.1

Paleo is still very much a thing.

1:55.4

Very popular. Still very popular. And, and there must be some level of effectiveness to it.

2:00.8

There must be some reasonable level that it's still around.

2:05.0

And look, it's not just my work friends and my brother.

2:08.8

There are other kind of prominent paleo-type dieters out there.

2:14.0

There's tons of celebrities.

2:15.2

Tons of celebs, right?

2:16.2

Matthew McConaughey, Edgar Ramirez,

2:19.0

Channing Tatum have all kind of gone with paleo principles. And it's not just the guys,

2:23.6

some women as well, have also dabbled in paleo. Jessica Beal, Blake lively, Christina Aguilera,

2:30.4

also have gone paleo- or paleo-ish, paleo principles. And what I find interesting is when I,
