First came the handshake in Singapore, seen around the world, then the two heads of state

alone with translators for about 45 minutes. After that, the meeting with staff for a lengthy

lunch and a ceremonial signing. During his subsequent news conference, President Trump characterized

the meeting with Kim Jong-un as both a diplomatic success and a personal triumph.

All I can say is they want to make a deal.

That's what I do. My whole life has been deals. I've done great at it.

And that's what I do.

And I know when somebody wants to deal and I know when somebody

doesn't. A lot of politicians don't. That's not their thing. The Trump White House is accused

by critics and some supporters of conducting high-level diplomacy like reality TV, even including a promotional video.

Two men, two leaders, one destiny, a story about a special moment in time when a man is presented

with one chance that may never be repeated.

That video in a big room played for reporters before the president had his news conference,

and true enough, never to be reported as far as it goes.

Never before has America's head of state met with a counterpart from North Korea.

But the main points of the statement they signed, less than 500 words, have been made before.
