Welcome back to the Dershow, yesterday in Kansas, a very, very Republican state.

There was a referendum essentially on the right of a woman to choose abortion versus the

right of life of the fetus, and surprising to some not at all to me, the right to choice

one overwhelmingly over the right to life in a very Republican, in a very Republican state.

This may be the beginning of the fulfillment of a prediction that I made in 1973 when

Roe v. Wade came down.

Let me be very clear about my view.

I favor a woman's right to have an abortion until the time of viability.

Certainly the first several months of pregnancy.

That's my personal, moral, religious, political view, my own personal view.

But I was opposed to the decision in Roe v. Wade, because I didn't think it had a basis

in constitutional law.

I think one could have written a decision perhaps that would have provided a stronger

basis in the protection clause in the 9th Amendment and the 4th Amendment, but the decision

itself was very result oriented.

There were majority of justices who favored women's right to choose abortion, and they found

a constitutional basis for making that the law of the United States.

As I said, although I favor the woman's right to choose abortion, I prefer it to have

it done legislatively, because I think abortion is a very, very hard issue.

The pro-abortion movement, for example, Florence Kennedy was one of the pioneers in the movement,

state's permission to have an appendix removed, why should the state's permission to have
