All right, this will be the first section of diabetes.

I'm not going to focus specifically yet on the pharmacotherapy, the pharmacology of

medications specifically used to lower blood sugar.

But I'm going to talk about some compelling indications, potential complication,

and goals of therapy when obviously trying to decide what and when to use and then

what other kind of collateral damage results from diabetes.

So that's where I'm going to start. And then in the next section I'll cover the pharmacotherapy.

All right, diabetes monitoring.

Let's start with that.

Most non-pregnant patients will have a goal, A1C, of less than seven.

There may be exceptions to that. We might try to get a little bit more aggressive. We might try to get a little less aggressive, maybe in, you know,

geriatric end-of-life patients. But by and large, seven is a good target for most patients to start

with. If they're having hypoglycemia, we may get a little bit less aggressive.

If we feel that we could make control a little bit tighter, that can be beneficial as well.
