So on the podcast this week, we start out our news and analysis story for March 26.

0:05.8

We have three stories this week. Our feature story is about the now likely paramount purchase of Warner Brothers

0:15.5

and what this change-up means for Disney. This is a nuanced story about Hollywood in the 21st century. For the

0:23.7

last three months, most people in the film industry, including Disney's board of directors,

0:30.0

surely believed that Netflix would acquire Warner Brothers, which would have forced a tech-centered

0:37.3

evolution of Hollywood. In short, this meant

0:40.1

that Disney should further develop other areas than film such as the parks, where it had market

0:46.6

dominance and focus less moving forward on battling Netflix for market share in streaming,

0:53.2

as Netflix would clearly be the industry

0:56.7

leader. This also meant that with Netflix in Hollywood, the model for theatrical distribution

1:03.5

would also probably change a lot, meaning that Disney might have been incentivized to pull back from theatrical releases as

1:14.0

digital distribution would likely increase. Now that Netflix is no longer buying Warner Brothers,

1:21.6

and Warner Brothers is going to another traditional studio, specifically Paramount, which is also invested in the current

1:29.6

theatrical model.

1:31.1

What does this mean for Disney, especially after Disney just promoted Josh DeMorrow's CEO,

1:38.0

which clearly signaled a parks-centered forward-moving strategy for the company, which may have been a strategy

1:47.2

partially arrived at with the assumption that Netflix would acquire Warner Brothers.

1:54.5

Our second story is about an unusual trend of guests getting naked in Universal and Disney theme parks.

2:03.4

And then we'll close out this week's episode with talk about the Cocoa Boat Ride at DCA,

2:09.8

which like other projects is moving very quickly into construction, in part to ensure

2:15.1

that the project isn't canceled or reduced.

2:18.8

And so, if you're ready, let's jump into this week's stories.
