| 1:02.0 | Once when I met Shinsen Young talking with him, he was one of the great elder Vipassna teachers in the United States. Brilliant man, very creative, and as a Buddhist teacher. |
| 1:08.0 | And he once created a program to teach mindfulness to teenagers. |
| 1:16.0 | I believe some of them were troubled teenagers. |
| 1:19.0 | And I was really struck by the principle by which he taught these teenagers mindfulness. |
| 1:32.0 | First what he would do is they were going to come to him for the, I guess, |
| 1:37.3 | training and mindfulness. And he asked them to bring whatever was their favorite music and they would come with their favorite music and |
| 1:47.7 | they would listen to it. A big part of the session with him was listening to that music. |
| 1:53.0 | And he would not teach them any mindfulness. |
| 1:56.0 | What he would do, and he wouldn't teach it directly, |
| 2:00.0 | what he would do, he would ask them questions about listening to their music and questions about |
| 2:10.0 | the experience of being with their music, what their mind does when their music is |
| 2:14.5 | there, listening to music. So I don't know exactly what his questions were but I |
| 2:18.9 | could imagine that he might ask for example, when you most enjoyed your music, how did you feel? |
| 2:26.0 | And what was a quality, what was your, how would you characterize your attention when you were most enjoying your music? |
| 2:34.0 | And there were times when you kind of lost track of your music |
| 2:38.0 | that you got drifted off and thought. |
